This seems like a good price. I can source the seat bottom from ebay for $99. I think this is choice number two after I look at a Z4 today. I’m not sure about the top though.

I wouldn’t. Your options are limited on an island, but there was recently two 450SLs for $2k, I would be on top of that real quick. Their values are going up pretty quick as well, and mbworld is a great resource for fixing the R107 series cars on a budget. That and they look great.

Just me though, I’m a little partial.

Looks a little rough but the wheels alone are probably worth a grand. They are real BBS made for a couple special edition models. I had a 1.8t for a few years and was a solid motor, a chip and exhaust really wakes it up as well.

Well, the guy with the 1980 450SL(s) has not responded yet, and this is supposed to just be the top. That’s never the case, but I’ll know soon enough.

Other than partiality to the Mercs why would you pass?

I’ve never seen a used Audi in condition i would consider good enough to DD. They’re really whipped on hard, the parts are stupid expensive, and they’re generally a pain to work on as well.

I looked at sedan A class cars around when I got my Magnum, but I just was never happy with how the previous owners maintained the cars. I don’t know how the tops operate, but some modern convertible tops are absolute nightmares. Worst yet, the seat, that’s the biggest indication of how well that car was treated. The current owner is getting rid of it for pretty cheap for a reason, and he’s not being honest about it. Timing chain maybe? I don’t know much about audi motors besides the horrifically infamous V8s with the back side timing chain in the firewall.

If anything, that Audi would have to be $1500 less for me to consider it worth taking seriously, because it’s going to need at least that in maintenance to really sort out whatever is either already wrong, or going to go wrong very soon.

I assume that is going to be the case with this car as well. I’m guessing it will have some sort of transmission issue or something. The roof is reason enough for him to have dropped the price by a couple of grand off KBB which is either $6 or 7 depending on model year. He says 2006, but the title says 2005 off of autocheck. It’s recorded as being built in 11/05, I guess that could be 2006 model year, maybe.

So it did run and drive great, Good AC, engine compartment is dirty, but no fluids to be seen... Underneath the front bumper has been dragged over curbs enough to rip it, and the rear bumper skin needs replaced, airbag light is on... oh, the top itself needs replaced because the window has delaminated from it and water can leak in. Also the interior needed a good detoxic and other items fixed. For these reasons I agreed with you and offered him $1500 less. He hasn’t responded. I’ll go into the mid $3ks though. I think he’ll find out that he is high over the next few days.

$3k is the highest I would go. Thats about it though. The amount of work you’ll need to put into it will be pretty high.
